IMEC is a retail/gallery space working as a bridge, connecting artisans and consumers.
Luis Demetrio Nolasco, the founder of IMEC, attended RISD and graduated from the UNM. While at UNM, Luis began taking metals classes, falling in love with the sculptural form and realizing that jewelry is “wearable sculpture”.
Artists in the New Mexico region were missing representation and exhibition/retail space. Opened in 1999, IMEC became the region's only niche gallery, carrying curated jewelry by regional, pioneering artisans known for their experimental techniques, designs, and materials. IMEC prides itself in representing over 70 local and international artists.
Relationships are at the heart of IMEC.
IMEC collaborates with each artist to ensure that the work is driven commercially and successfully. The IMEC team works to develop a fresh promotional and marketing campaign allowing the artists to focus on their craft.
Jewelry is a financial investment and intimate experience. Dubbed “the family jeweler”, Luis finds himself matching jewelry with generations of families, introducing them to that perfect, unique family heirloom.
